An Elf Arrived

Our classroom had a visitor from the North Pole show up Friday.  Our elf was on Mrs. H. desk hiding inside a special elf.  We had a contest to name our new elf.  Each child was asked to draw a picture of the elf and write down a name.  The winning name was Max.  This coming week we will be keeping an elf journal of elf Max's adventures.
Update!
Snowflake showed up when Max got the flu.  Thanks for the Jingle pup, story and movie.  We LOVED hearing Jingle respond to the story!!

Rocks Rock!

We had a great time sharing our rocks that were brought from home.  We even made a few creations with our rock project.  Check a few samples out below.  Oh yes,  do you see our elf that showed up today?

Measurement

We have started our new math unit on Measurement.  We had a blast today measuring with a partner to see if Santa was bigger, smaller or the same size as items in our classroom.  This is a cool freebie on TPT.   http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Christmas-Measurement-Activity-for-Reception-Kindergarten-371190  Check it out.  See our fun below!
Measuring a glue stick
Measuring an Indian pointer

See our recording sheets below.  Pete and a Tissue box were smaller than Santa.  Mrs. Hightower's new Santa cup is the same size as Santa and the Promethean board was bigger than Santa.   The kids had a blast measuring around the room!!!

We also learned about Mr. and Mrs. Measurement.  The girls like Mrs. Measurement and the tools that she would use to measure with.  Most of the boys liked Mr. Measurement.  They decided to measure with the non standard measurement tool like bears.  This freebie came from http://www.pinterest.com/pin/335588609703822006.  Thanks for the great ideas!!!
Notice the bear in his hand;)

An exciting beginning of the year!!

Working hard during center time.
We enjoy working with a partner to
finish our journal writing.

We love our "double checkers".

More partner writing.
Partner reading.  We love
 reading with
our microphones,

pointers and story cubes.

An exciting Fall at the Hightower's
AHS went to the play offs this year making it to round 3 and the band followed every game.  Congrats AHS.

Elizabeth at her first game:)
AHS band on the field.  Elizabeth is on the Color Guard this year.
She is on the flag line and "weapon line".  Has hopes of being
the captain next year:)))

Upward Flag Football for Ashley.

Halloween

Mrs. W. and I dressed like Pete the Cat.  I have on my
favorite color shoes-Purple Converse!!

Toby Pup dressed as a little Devil.  He started chewing up all of his toys so we thought this costume was fitting for him.  Reagan dressed as Saige.  She wants this doll for Christmas this year.  Our students dressed as their favorite story book character.  I decorated the Promethean board and Pete as a surprise to the kiddos:))
Thanksgiving.
The kids really LOVED dressing
like a turkey and Indian to practice
their sight words.  It was called
"Turkey Toss".  They threw a stuffed
turkey on a sight word and read it to
their partner while wearing a turkey hat or
Indian vest.  They had a BLAST!!

Happy Thanksgiving.  Hi! Mr. Duffey

More Turkey Tossing:)))

Love our Pete the Cats for Thanksgiving.
We are thankful for a lot of things!

Our new "Toy" for our classroom.  We got a Ladibug to go along with our Promethean board.  We love it!

SNOW BEFORE THANKSGIVING IN GEORGIA!  A first for me!!
Toby ate the snow.
