Great Vacation!!

I am having a great summer so far.  I just spend a fun week long vacation camping in Pine Mountain, Ga with my entire family.  We spent a lot of time swimming, riding bikes and even celebrated my youngest daughter's 5th birthday.  Check out the pics below:)))

GRADUATION AT LAST

Friday was graduation and we had tears of joy and sorrow.  I will miss my entire class this year.  I had a great class of 11 boys and 7 girls.  I hope to see each one next year!

Pete the Cat Party Picnic Day

Pete the Cat Party Picnic Day
We celebrated all of our accomplishments this year by having a "Pete the Cat Party Picnic" on Thursday.  All of my original class has learned all 220 sight words and more.  YAHOOO!!  We had a popcorn and movie day Wednesday and celebrated Thursday.  Check out the pictures below.  We all wore Blue, ate Pete the Cat cupcakes, Pete pretzels and had Fruit Roll up diplomas.  The kids loved eating outside with a sack lunch as well and released blue balloons.  EVERY KID HAD A PETE and a blast!  Tomorrow we will graduate.

My new puppy!!! I have a dog now:)))

Hi all,

I just wanted to announce the newest addition to our family.  It has been over 8 years since my "first baby Alex" passed.  I have waited a long time but I am happy to announce a new baby boy has been adopted into our family.  His name is Toby.  He is a 9wk old Puggle.  That's a pug and beagle mix.  He is so adorable as my girls say.  What do you think?

I think this was a great Mother's Day gift and as I saw a magnet at the dog store--Who rescued who?  The whole family loves him.

AIMSweb

Parents, I have included several practice activities for our upcoming May AIMSweb test.  These practice activities should be randomly used and completed in one minute by the students.
Feel free to download these and practice at home. :)

American Symbol Projects

We finished up our American Symbols unit with a fun project.  I found the cutest idea on Pinterest.   ThirdGradeTroop.com had an idea for a "box" project.  My kindergarten students picked one symbol and wrote 3 sentences and included a picture on their box.  The kids had a blast finding out new information and sharing the boxes with the class.  See a few pictures below.  This was a great cumulative assignment.  Thanks Third Grade Troop for sharing!!

Free Writing

Hi all,
Our Kindergarten team attended a writing training recently.  We learned a lot of new stuff and refreshed ourselves on the old.  My students are really enjoying the "free writing" aspect.  I give my students 15 minutes of free writing time without a topic.  The students choose the topic.  They are allowed to write the entire time and without talking or interuptions.  The students are instructed to simply write and not worry about punctuation or conventions.  After the timer goes off, the students finished his/her thoughts.  Parent share times comes next.  Each student turns to his/her "table buddy" and reads their writing to the buddy.  The only statement that can be made is a positive comment like great job or thanks for sharing.  It has really had my Kindergarten students more open to writing more, sharing and composing thoughts and putting them on paper.  It has been great for my struggling writer.  After this experience, the writing samples can then be edited the following day.  We usually do a "free writing" activity every Friday now.  See below a few samples of my student's work.
